Read Daniel 1
A small group of people willing to pay a price to proclaim their faith can wield unbelievable influence in society. Just a handful of people with deep conviction and honest concern have led entire communities to outlaw pornographic establishments and provide an alternative for those contemplating an abortion. Even one individual can make a difference.
Although the apathy of some Christians and the wickedness of society are discouraging, we should pray and remain confident in God. William Wilberforce was a great Christian philanthropist and a vigorous opponent of the slave trade in England in the early 1800’s. As he surveyed the terrible moral and spiritual climate of his day, he did not lose hope. He wrote, “My own solid hopes for the well-being of my country depend, not so much on her navies or armies, nor on the wisdom of her rulers, nor on the spirit of her people, as on the persuasion that she still contains many who love and obey the gospel of Christ. I believe that the prayers may yet prevail.” Within a few years after he made this statement, the country he loved, experienced one of the greatest revivals in modern times, bringing salvation to thousands and producing widespread social changes.
Daniel and his three friends were just four young Hebrews in heathen Babylon, but what an influence they had! It takes only a few courageous, sincere, praying believers to make a tremendous impact.
Heavily outnumbered we might be in the natural, keep trusting God and doing His work as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit. Let’s claim the Redlands for Jesus in all the work we do in this area. I encourage everyone who is able to meet for prayer to come this Friday night to tear down the strongholds in the Redlands and see the victory before us.
