“First pride, then the crash-- the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.” Proverbs 16:18 - The Message
70’s Aussie rock band, Skyhooks had a hit song, “Ego, is Not a Dirty Word”. Well, I beg to differ. Let me explain.
Every time I have seen people driven by their ego, there are always detrimental effects. Ego-driven people are more important in their own minds than reality reveals. “Don’t you understand who I am?” is a common catch-cry of many including the well-documented recent activities of Paris Hilton. Another word for the ego-driven is “Arrogant”.
Sadly, such ego isn’t confined to the ungodly. There is always a risk of people within the church to also become arrogant within their calling. Not able to be directed, taught or corrected by the Pastor or leadership of a church, many arrogant people ruin ministries and give churches bad reputations.
This type of ego leads to treachery, and ultimately, without repentance, a falling away from relationship with Christ.
I urge you to stay humble, able to receive correction and direction. Anyone taking any form of leadership in this church must be humble and not ego-driven. Romans 12:3 says that we must not think of ourselves more highly than we should. In other words, “Get over yourself”.
Keep Jesus at that number 1 spot in your life.
May the Lord bless you. Love from your pastor, Daren.
