“We should live decently, as people who live in the light of day. Wild parties, drunkenness, sexual immorality, promiscuity, rivalry, and jealousy cannot be part of our lives.” Romans 13:13 GW
D.L. Moody told of two merchants between whom there was great rivalry & bitter feeling. One of them was converted & went to his minister and said, “I’m still jealous of that man, & I don’t know how to overcome it.” “Well”, said the minister, “if a man comes into your store to buy goods, and your cannot supply him, send him over to your neighbour.” He said he wouldn’t like to do that. “Well”, said the minister, “you do it & you will kill jealousy.” Sure enough, when he began sending customers over to his rival for goods he himself couldn’t supply, the rival began to send customers over to this man’s store..& the breach was healed.
Jealousy is an insecurity of oneself and making demands of ownership and being resentful towards a rival. There is nothing godly about this cancer and in fact, the Bible calls it a form of coveting. Check out the list in the scripture above. Jealousy is up there with sexual immorality, drunkenness & promiscuity yet much is said on these matters but little on the evils and potential outcomes of jealousy. Do as the man in the story and as you show love and consideration, watch God perform miracles in the seemingly hopeless issues that surround you.
May the Lord bless you,
Love from your pastor, Daren.
