“We have a lot to explain about this. But since you have become too lazy to pay attention, explaining it to you is hard. By now you should be teachers. Instead, you still need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word. You need milk, not solid food. All those who live on milk lack the experience to talk about what is right. They are still babies. However, solid food is for mature people, whose minds are trained by practice to know the difference between good and evil.” Hebrews 5:11-14 (GW)
Last week I wrote here that we must move on to maturity. This morning, my exhortation to you is a warning against immaturity. The writer of the Hebrews states that the Hebrew church had become lazy and wouldn’t understand the deeper truths of God’s Word. Let me say this...Understanding truths of God’s Word with the head (intellectually) is not the same as taking it on board in the heart by faith. The Bible is better and more powerful than a simple text book or a street directory. It is God’s blueprint for like. It is God’s love letter to His creation. It’s alive and active. It’s infallible.
We must grow up and not be satisfied with where we are today. Re-invent yourself so you will grow and challenge yourself to surpass your current maturity level in God. Make a wilful decision to take the Word for what it is and not only receipt it but to live it day by day. Become an adult Christian not satisfied with a maintenance mentality but with a growth mentality. Then you will be able to know the real difference between good & evil.
May the Lord bless you,
Love from your pastor, Daren.
