Promises, Promises

I remember dad promising to take me fishing but due to circumstances, it didn’t happen. The problem was, however, the promise was made and I felt that dad was good for his word (which he was!)

We eventually went fishing but it was years later. Ten years ago when I worked in the car industry, I went to see the Brisbane Bullets smash the Melbourne Tigers. When I arrived home, I promised my boys to take them ‘one day’. Well that day never came and I am still periodically reminded of that broken promise. I will pay up soon!

We all remember broken promises. In fact, we all stay clear of people who have a history of hollow words that mount to nothing. In fact, we often forget that when we make a verbal commitment, we are entering a legal contract.

James 5:12 “But before all things, my brothers, do not swear; neither by the heaven nor by the earth, nor any other oath. But let your yes be yes, and your no, no, lest you fall into condemnation.”

I urge you today, do not break a promise. If you say you will be in a certain place or promise to do something, go out of your way to fulfil it. Let your YES be yes and your NO be no. How good is your word?

God bless you,

Love from your pastor, Daren.
