Is anger a sin? I have no doubt that all mankind suffers the pain of anger at some time and at varying degrees.
Some people are “Short fused” others seem to handle greater pressure and have a longer fuse. But is anger a sin?
Well if anger is a sin, that would mean God sins...and that is ludicrous!
Romans 12:19 ‘Never take revenge, my friends, but instead let God's anger do it. For the scripture says, "I will take revenge, I will pay back, says the Lord."‘
Ephesians 4:26 ‘If you become angry, do not let your anger lead you into sin, and do not stay angry all day.’
Anger is not a sin. However, it is very easy to fall into sin while you are angry. The motivation of our anger must be weighed up. Is it greed? Self fulfilment? Self gratifying? Or is it out of compassion or even a righteous anger that leads someone to repentance?
When you are angry, ensure to allow it to lead you to fixing up an issue or a problem.
Anger can be a very useful barometer to your spiritual state and your relationship with God and others around you. Test your anger to see what motivates it and you will quickly get a picture of how you stand with God.
