Philippians 3:13 “Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward--to Jesus.”
What happens if you were running but failed to keep your eyes on the target? Or you were driving a boat & eagerly taking in the beautiful scenery, the islands & watching the dolphins jumping out of the water, looking at everything but the place you desire to reach?
I was taken up in a single engine plane some years ago and to my amazement, my pilot friend gave me the controls. He told me to keep my eyes on a landmark on the horizon to prevent me from going off course.
Over-confident Daren preceded to take in the great view and forgot the job at hand. He showed me the instruments that told us we were in a dive and hopelessly in the wrong direction.
Paul tells us in this verse to keep our eyes on the goal towards Jesus. How easy it is to get distracted & head off course! This is one of many reasons why you need the Church—the Body of Christ. We keep each other looking to Jesus—reminding one another of the great prize!
