A Day care centre some years ago sat on a corner of a busy highway. Although the centre had a great yard in which the children could play, at recess they would huddle against the building. The cars whizzing by frightened them.
One day, workmen erected a steel fence around the playground. From that point, the kids used the entire yard. The fence didn’t limit their freedom—it actually expanded it.
Children aren’t the only ones who need clear boundaries. When we live within the boundaries that God has spelt out clearly in His Word, we live under His protection and blessing.
We must include disciplines in our everyday lives.
I am amazed at how many Christians live outside of these boundaries and complain about the bad things that happen to them. Over my many years of knowing the Lord, I’ve come to understand that if we live within the boundaries that God sets out, we would have so much less to complain about.
Discipline is such an unpopular word. It seems to generate such a negative & limiting connotation. These ‘Christians’ who complain are ‘Christians’ who fail to know God and His freedom-giving rules for living. If we speed, we increase our chances of an accident. If we play with fire, we will get burned. These are natural principles that reflect our supernatural God. Live in God’s freedom & you will live in His blessing.
