I had the pleasure of once again being invited to the local primary school to conduct the prayer of remembrance for the ANZAC Day Service on Friday. ANZAC Day is a very important part of our heritage and we must continue to honour the brave men and women who fought for our great nation.
Listening to the young students reflect on the meaning of this special day was wonderful just to realise that the deeds of our forefathers have not gone unnoticed.
Every story of courage during the many conflicts Australia has been involved in of course was not recorded. Therefore we will never know the many struggles and selfless acts of heroism that numerous unknown soldiers encountered. Most of these stories were buried with the countless and even nameless national heroes.
Many believe that observing such days only glorifies the horrors of war but I disagree.
- Romans 13:7 ‘Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honour to whom honour is owed.‘
We are told with no uncertain terms to honour those who are owed honour. Anyone who is brave enough to defend their nation deserves honour.
My Saviour paid a debt that He did not owe yet many don’t even honour Him. When Jesus suffered at the hands of ruthless, religious murderers, He quietly stood before the people to hear His sentence passed down—the sentence of death by crucifixion.
How can we show Jesus honour? It’s more than observing holy days like Christmas and Easter. It’s about living for Him. Allowing Him to abide in you and directing your path. It’s about submitting completely to His plan and purposes for your life. It’s selfless heroism that will even challenge your view on life itself. It’s laying down your life for your Saviour.
Let’s make your day of honouring Jesus everyday. He died for you. He’s asking you to live for Him.
