A Friend Closer than a Brother

This week my 24 month mobile phone contract came to its completion thus making way for a new contract for a capped plan. This means a new phone comes into the mix.

Initially, I wanted the simplest phone on the market. I didn’t want to learn how to work a new one. As I conversed with the sales person, I looked at the pros and cons of all the phones available and finally, to my surprise, I settled on a new touch phone complete with Windows Mobile. All this still meant nothing to me. All I could ask the sales person was, ‘Is it easy to use?’ Of course he replied with a hefty ‘Yes’.

I took it home and I found it to be totally different to anything I’ve ever had or used. In fact, this new system frustrated me so much that I didn’t want to continue with it! All this until my wife entered ‘stage left’. She read the instructions and played with it and suddenly it all worked. Thanks to my beautiful wife, I can basically work this machine and make calls, emails, txts and some other things. It helps organise me.

Everyday life can be daunting at times. It can deal cards of discouragement, disappointment, hurt, bad news, sad news and can leave us angry, sorrowful and frustrated that things simply aren’t going our way.

  • Proverbs 18:24—‘A man of too many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.’ (NASB)

Jesus tells us in John 15:14 ‘You are My friends if you do what I command.’ (NLT)

So therefore, if you are obedient and submit totally to Jesus, He is that friend who sticks closer than a brother.

When life becomes too tough and the pain of decision making is overwhelming, or people do things to you that are not Godly, don’t seek vengeance or get bitter but rather, seek your very bestest friend who will put things right for you. But remember, you must submit to Him for that friendship to occur. Just like lovely Kerrith who came to the rescue in my troubled time, Jesus will come to the rescue when life gets you down. Pray today.

May God bless you this week and beyond. Seek out Jesus today., Your pastor, Daren.
