Relax this Christmas

We have hit the pointy end of the year once again with all the busyness that is associated with Christmas and the winding up of another year.

As 2008 draws to a close and we scurry around for presents, preparing meals and for family gatherings, we must be careful not to be so busy that we loose touch with reality.

We’ve all heard the saying, "Can’t see the forest for the trees." We can be in the middle of something great but become oblivious to it due to our busyness. We get caught up with the tasks at hand that we can fail to appreciate the simple but often valuable blessings that surround us.

Luke 10:38-42 paints us a vivid picture of this very fact. Martha was the worker who had to make sure everything was right and all the tasks were completed. She scurried, served, and worried over the meal she was preparing for Jesus while her sister, Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to all He was teaching.

Both were correct in what they did. There is nothing wrong with working, preparing and serving. In fact, the church needs such people in order to function. We are told to serve and roll up our sleeves in the house of God. In Mary’s defence, she was listening to the greatest Teacher that had ever walked the planet. She absorbed the very words of life from the source of life.

The problem came from the attitude of Martha. Verse 40 says that Martha was distracted by the work and complained about her "Lazy" sister.

If we are truly serving, we will do it in love and in an attitude of thanksgiving and praise, not judgement.

There is a time to be busy and to prepare but make sure you do it in the right attitude. This Christmas, put your feet up, relax, soak in the blessings that surround you, absorb the Words of Life from the Master. Spend time sitting at the feet of the Author of Life as Mary did and experience a life-changing transformation.

Have an awesome, Jesus-filled Christmas. God bless you, Daren.
