Be a Slave to Righteousness

"Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey— whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" - Romans 6:16.

This is the essence of Christianity. Our recent trip to the Philippines has opened my eyes to the captivity to sin we can voluntarily place ourselves. Many of the forms of transport have little angels or statues of Mary or another "saint" to keep them safe each journey.

Superstitions, idols, reading of the daily horoscope in the paper, palm reading and all other forms of idol worship will hold us in captivity and make us complete slaves of its dominion.

Even Christians can place themselves under the curse which has a simple name but crippling consequences—"SIN".

  • 2 Peter 2:19 says, "They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves to sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you."

Many people I spoke to are very aware of the government corruption in the Philippines and its crippling effects on the social welfare and economy of the nation.

Sin and corruption will tear people apart, destroy morals and disintegrate our peace, joy and relationship with God. Sin isn’t just in blatant idol worship but it is found in subtle acts and words and erodes everything that holy and righteous before God. Peter tells us that whatever you are a slave to controls you. This means that we must live a life of daily repentance of our sin...nip it in the bud early while our sin is in it’s infancy so we aren’t corrupted by this dreaded cancer.

God bless you in your desire to make God your Number 1 idol in your life.

Love from your pastor...Daren.
