Not Everything is Beneficial

  • "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.” 1 Corinthians 10:23-24

The everyday life is packed to the rafters with choices. Do I do this or do I do that? Am I allowed to try this or that according to the Bible?

I was speaking with a young lady at work this week who has never been to church and, to this point of time, has no intention of attending. She started asking questions pertaining to the Christian faith and what it is all about. So many don’ts. Do you believe in the Ten Commandments? Are you Christian or Catholic? Hiding my smile, I began to explain what Christianity is and isn’t. I explained that there are more do’s than don’ts and more fun being in relationship with God than agony. Her questions showed me how much she is unfamiliar with God. I was filled with joy to have the honour of explaining fundamental truths of my faith in Jesus.

I can’t help but to also experience the huge sense of responsibility we have to show Jesus by our lifestyle. What’s the point of sharing the way of salvation with an unbeliever if our mouth is a sewer or our habits prove no different to a person captured by sin?

"Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive.”

We must consider carefully everything we do and say prior to acting it out. It might not be un-lawful or illegal, but is it beneficial and constructive? Does it point the unsaved to Jesus? Do your words and actions add value to others?

We are Christians. Children of the Light. Ambassadors of Christ. Transformed, Renewed, Righteous, Restored, Re-born.

Next time to speak to an un-saved family member, work colleague, classmate or buddy, ask yourself, “Is this beneficial and constructive? Is this adding Godly value to this person whom I want to win for Jesus?”

Seek the Holy Spirit for wisdom and strength. God bless you, Pastor Daren.
