This week saw the collapse of one of America's largest merchant banks, Lehman Brothers. With such a collapse comes the pain to the many who rely on a strong and robust economy. We woke on Tuesday morning to the news that the Dow Jones Industrial Average dived 505 points in a single session as a result of this collapse.
Superannuation suffers. World wide markets and economies react negatively to such volatile news and potentially sends the world's financial commodity into a southbound tail spin.
It's quite daunting to think that this merchant bank with 158 years of history behind it has gone belly-up in a relatively short space of time. Many people placed their total and complete faith in this institution that promised never to let them down.
As Christians, our eternal hope is not in financial institutions or our accumulated wealth but on the Rock of our salvation, Jesus. When the storms of life buffet us and challenge our faith, we are told to hold on to the Miracle Worker, not simply the hope of a miracle.
Colossians 1:23 “However, you must remain firmly established and steadfast in the faith, without being moved from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.”
Jesus tells us a story of the wise man who built his house on the rock so when the rains come down and the floods rose, the house remains but no so for the foolish...
Matthew 7:26 "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn't obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.”
Your faith in God is in your hands to nurture it and grow it in your own personal quiet time. No one else is responsible – not your spouse, parents, pastor, Bible study leader – You are told to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2:12)
Armed with this truth, arise and produce much good fruit for God. Always rest your hope on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
Bless ya heaps, Pastor Daren.
