Huge Fish to Fry

I don’t mind getting away, going to a quiet place and throwing a line with the view of catching fish. It takes patience, skill and the right gear. There’s no point using a small fly hook with a half prawn as the bait on a 4 pound line in the Brisbane River if you are fishing for deep sea Pearl Perch.

The ‘Pearly’ is the best fish I’ve ever caught and eaten and is a real prize for the serious fisherman.

God has blessed each of us with a measure of faith and gifts of the Holy Spirit. He calls us not to waste these instalments of His blessings but to use it and be a joy, encouragement and blessing to His church, the body of Christ.

The prize isn’t a huge church building, heaps of money in the bank, endless supply of resources, the most amazing worship ministry or personal ambitions. All these are good but never the prize. Jesus summed it up in one simple statement…

  • Matthew 4:19  “And He said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

We have huge fish to fry. The prize has eternal significance where moths won’t eat and rust won’t destroy. The reason we are still here is to rise up and share the love of Jesus with those around us...each of us. We are all called to minister in our homes, workplaces and schools. No one can reach your friends like you can.

It’s really about priorities. Are your priorities on eternity and the lives that  otherwise are destined to a Christless eternity? Or are your priorities on the pleasures of this world that have no enjoyment in the life to come?

  • Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

God bless you as you serve the Lord and set your priorities on the things that really matter, the prize of eternal significance. Pastor Daren.
