When You Don't Feel like Praying

There are numerous excuses why we don’t spend much time in prayer. In fact, I think I have exhausted most of them myself. Time. Issues. Sickness. Don’t feel like it. The list goes on. A consistent and purposeful prayer life is essential to living the powerful, victorious Christian life. Here’s what two renowned prayer warriors say about prayer…

“Pray when you feel like it, for it is a sin to neglect such an opportunity. Pray when you don’t feel like it, for it is dangerous to remain in such a condition.” Ruth Bell Graham.

“It is a good thing to let prayer be the first business in the morning and the last in the evening. Guard yourself against such false and deceitful thoughts that keep whispering: ‘Wait a while. In an hour or so I will pray. I must finish this or that.’ Thinking such thoughts we get away from prayer into other things that will hold us and involve us till the prayer of the day comes to naught.” Martin Luther, when asked by his barber, “How do you pray?”

Along with every aspect of our glorious Christian walk, quality prayer is an act of our will and connected with our daily discipline. If you are struggling in this discipline, try praying for 10 minutes a day at first. Once you’ve mastered that, increase your training regime to 15 and so on. After all, 7 days without prayer makes1 weak.

God bless you powerful soldier in the Lord! Daren.
