The Power of God

Power can be used in at least two ways: it can be unleashed, or it can be harnessed. The energy in fifty litres of petrol, for instance, can be released explosively by dropping a lighted match into the can...but stand back!

Alternatively it can be channeled through the engine of a Holden in a controlled burn and used to transport a person 600 kms.

Explosions are spectacular, but controlled burns have lasting effect, staying power.

The Holy Spirit works in both ways. At Pentecost, He exploded on the scene; His presence was like “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:3). Thousands were affected by one burst of God’s power.

Act s 4:31  “When the apostles had finished praying, their meeting place shook. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God boldly.”

But He also works through His church—the institution God began to tap the Holy Spirit’s power for the long haul. Through worship, fellowship, ministry, evangelism, and discipleship, prophetic words, Christians are provided with staying power.

We are promised the power of God when the Holy Spirit comes upon us—Acts 1:8  “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to you. Then you will be my witnesses to testify about me in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Be sure today that you are in life for Jesus for the long haul. Be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit!
