A survey showed that 99% of accidents on staircases involved either the top or the bottom stair. This information was fed into a computer to find out how to reduce stairway accidents. The computer’s answer: “remove the top and bottom stairs.”
An answer like that emulates something that might come from a government bureaucratic taskforce!
Nevertheless, some answers we get in life are nothing short of humourous, negating all forms of logic.
Well last week I preached on the Pentecostal Church and how it ought to be...sighting Acts 3. Peter & John were on their way to the temple to pray and a man was sitting at the gate begging for money. Their answer? Nope. Don’t have any but… When the word “BUT” is uttered, that means an alternative is on it’s way. “BUT, in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth, Get up & Walk!”
The rest is history. It defies all measure of logic. To speak healing into a man’s life with such obvious frailty is not only illogical, it’s gutsy!
Church, we are entering a phase that requires illogical guts. We can choose to surround ourselves with “tried & proven” formulas for doing church, or we can chase after God and see what His ways are for us.
- Isaiah 55:8 “My thoughts," says the LORD, "are not like yours, and My ways are different from yours.”
Come on! We must break any conservative strongholds that bind our minds to thinking that God is bound by our wishes, our understandings, our theological biases and our comfort zones. God is bigger than that!
Let’s forge ahead in the power of our Awesome God.
